Loom

Cloth is woven from two sets of threads: the warp runs vertically, the weft horizontally. At every crossing, one of them is on top. Here, a cellular automaton decides which. Each row of the cloth is one step in time, computed from the row above by a simple local rule. The loom becomes a computer, and the cloth a record of its computation. No one designed these patterns.
